What devices support Express Mode with Apple Pay?

iPhone 8 or later with iOS 13.6 or later, or Apple Watch Series 3 or later with watchOS 6.2.8 or later.

Can I use Apple Pay for transit on both iPhone and Apple Watch?

Yes. Just add a payment card to your iPhone and Apple Watch, and enable Express Mode. To add a card to your watch, use the Apple Watch app on your iPhone.

Can I use Express Mode for other payments?

No. Express Mode can only be used with OMNY readers at MTA bus and subway stations. Face ID, Touch ID, or passcode will still be required when using Apple Pay at other locations.

Can I use weekly or monthly unlimited ride passes with my device?

No. You can only pay for single rides.

What happens if both my physical card and device are accidentally charged at the same time?

This is known as a card clash. To avoid being charged twice, keep your physical card separate from your Apple devices when using the reader.

  1. To use Express Transit in New York, you need a debit or credit card set up in the Wallet app and set as your Express Transit card on an iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus, iPhone SE (2016), or later running the latest version of iOS, or an Apple Watch Series 1 or later running the latest version of watchOS.
  2. AR requires an iOS or iPadOS device with iOS 11 and an A9 processor or later.
  3. Not accepted on AirTrain JFK, Access-A-Ride, or for onboard fare payment on LIRR or Metro-North.
