    What devices support Express Mode with Apple Pay?

    iPhone SE (2016) or iPhone 6s or later with iOS 12.3 or later, or Apple Watch Series 1 or later with watchOS 5.2.1 or later.

    Can I use Apple Pay for transit on both iPhone and Apple Watch?

    Yes. Just add a payment card to your iPhone and Apple Watch, and enable Express Mode. To add a card to your watch, use the Apple Watch app on your iPhone.

    Can I add a transit card to Apple Wallet to pay for transit?

    No. You can only use a credit, debit, or prepaid card to pay with Express Mode using Apple Pay.

    Can I add passes to my Apple Wallet?

    No. Contactless payment is currently not supported for weekly or monthly passes, or those provided by your employer or school.

    Can I use reduced fares with Apple Pay?

    Yes, but to ensure the correct fare is charged, you need to link your reduced fare benefits to the credit or debit cards in your Apple Wallet used for tap to pay.

    What happens if both my physical card and device are accidentally charged at the same time?

    This is known as a card clash. To avoid being charged twice, keep your physical card separate from your Apple devices when using the reader.

    1. To use Express Mode with a credit card in Wallet, you need an iPhone SE (2016) or iPhone 6s or later with iOS 12.3 or later, or an Apple Watch Series 1 or later with watchOS 5.2.1 or later.
    2. AR requires an iOS or iPadOS device with iOS 11 and an A9 processor or later.
    3. Not accepted on commuter rail, commuter ferry, regional transit authorities, paratransit, parking, and non-MBTA affiliate mobility services. In order to receive a reduced fare benefit, you must enroll your payment card in your reduced fare program. Visit mbta.com for more information.
